Over 40 years, under the long-term significant support from generations of industry experts, scholars and all colleagues, Automation of Electric Power Systems has grown into a technical journal with relatively high influence in power sector and positive contributions to domestic electric power industry on aspects of academic disseminations and achievement transformation. Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (MPCE), an English journal firstly launched in 2013, has also embarked on a fast track of development. MPCE is currently included by both SCI and Ei database, and is in Q2 zone of SCI database.

In the new era, the journal publishing center takes the principles of “foothold in China, opening-up to the world, factualism and innovation, scientific-technical progress promotion in power and energy fields”, aiming to make every possible efforts as a bridge in perspectives of scientific and technological innovation, academic exchange, achievement transformation and popularization, and etc. It continuously explores the way of thinking and scope of science and technology information service. The electric science and technology forum, an academic exchange platform with more comprehensive audiences and more flexible patterns was constructed and personally named by Academician Xue Yuesheng as “Purple Mountain Forum” for the purposes of promoting academic exchange and controversy in the field of electric engineering and technology development. It is hoped that the forum may serve as a bond for the improvement of friendship among colleagues working in power industry, a platform for academic idea exchanges, a bridge for industry-university-research communication and cooperation, a position for scientific and technologic communication and inheritance and a catalyst for scientific inspiration to realize the target of “innovation promotion and creation of value”. The forum may not only serve as the palace hall for great scholars to share their ideological achievements, but also a stage for youths to demonstrate their talents; not only a position for academic exchanges of academic researches, but also a platform for first-line staff to share their experience and skills.

Since 2015, “Purple Mountain Forum” has held over 30 academic activities and invited famous experts both at home and abroad to give speeches on the latest achievements in scientific research; for example, the forum invited Academician An Luo to give an academic report on the topic of “Power Quality Problems and Solutions for Large-Scale Access of Power Electronic Equipment to Power Grid” in the first academic activity held in November of 2015; on January 12th 2016, the forum invited Professor Qinghua Wu, professor of national “The Recruitment Program of Global Experts” and Dean of Energy Research Institute of South China University of Technology, to give the speech on “Scientific Expression, Thinking and Value”; on March 18th 2016, the forum invited Professor Xinghuo Yu, Vice Principal of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT), to give a speech on the topic of “Control and Optimization in Complex Networks and Application in Smart Grids”; on the afternoon of May 6th 2016, the Electric Power Academic Forum of “Purple Mountain Forum” invited Academician Yusheng Xue to give an academic speech on the topic of “Big Data and Engineering Calculation – Dilemma and Exploration”. In the past two years, “Purple Mountain Forum” has elaborately selected industry focuses and organized several seminars, including multi-energy complement, high proportion of renewable energy electric system, electricity market, smart distribution network, modernization of power grids and etc., which generated extensive attention and support.

“Purple Mountain Forum” has cooperated with NARI Group, State Key Laboratory of Smart Grid Protection and Control（SKL of SGPC）and other institutions for four years, and held series of international seminars with over 20 domestic and foreign academicians from over 10 countries and 200 famous experts, and the overall number of participants reached more than 5,300. In 2019, the collected papers were firstly included in Ei, which demonstrated that the forum had been gradually expanding its academic influence and made positive contributions for the establishment of industrial and academic exchanges.

The issuance and operation of “Purple Mountain Forum” are positive attempts for the establishment of academic forum with domestic proprietary brand. Afterwards, the forum will stick to the principles of “openness, co-creation and sharing” to attract industry elites for joint participation, organization and management by means of invitation, recommendation, application and etc. Under the joint efforts, a professional forum with industry characteristics will be gradually formed up.
